Organic exotic mushrooms grown in the forest
Commitment to environmental sustainability
Being very conscious of the need to create sustainable and environmentally friendly farming alternatives, we use traditional Japanese farming techniques to produce our mushrooms.
The substrate on which our mushrooms grow are trunks and branches of native hardwood and hardwood trees (mainly oak and chestnut).
These are obtained from forest clearings, thinnings and thinning carried out to prevent forest fires and reduce the density of young trees in favour of those of greater size and quality.
And so, with a commitment to environmental sustainability in everything we do, we grow the best exotic mushrooms, in the most respectful and committed way possible to the natural cycle of each mushroom.
This ensures that they are of the highest quality, and with the lowest possible environmental impact.
In our Asturian forest, under the tree canopy, temperature and humidity are much more stable than in other treeless areas.
Thanks to these climatic conditions, which are very similar to those in Japan, with mild temperatures and high humidity, it is possible to grow mushrooms outdoors.
In addition, this way we do not require large temperature and humidity controlled installations that consume large amounts of energy.
What mushrooms do we grow?
At Fungi natur we mainly grow Shiitake (Lentinula edodes) on oak and chestnut trunks.
We also cultivate Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum), a mushroom highly prized for its extraordinary medicinal properties.
Taking advantage of a wider range of autochthonous woods, we cultivate other species of mushrooms interesting for their organoleptic and medicinal qualities.
They include the Nameko mushroom (Pholiota nameko), Maitake (Grifola frondosa) and Judas ear (Auricularia auricula-judae), both of which are highly prized in Asian haute cuisine.
We grow our exotic mushrooms fresh in the forest.
We do not use phytosanitary products or artificial substrates.
We are the first company in Asturias to grow mushrooms of the highest quality and with organic certification.
